Allegany County falls in six Wildlife Management Units: 8X, 9N, 9P, 9W, 9X, 9Y. Five are in DEC Region 9, and 8X, on the county's eastern edge around Andover, Alfred and Independence, is in Region 8. All six are in the Southern Zone. In all six, rifles are legal for deer and bear, there are no antler point restrictions and no September antlerless season. 6 NYCRR § 4.1, WMU legal descriptions ↗ · DEC: Wildlife Management Units ↗ · DEC 2026–27 Hunting & Trapping Guide, Big Game section (pp. 26–27, 38) ↗

Hunter submissions are coming soon. We'd love to feature first deer, big gobblers and family hunting days from around the county. Nothing goes up without being reviewed by hand, and photos are shared only with the hunter's permission.
